  1. Sorry to be the one to break it to ya, Canada IS a free country.

A couple differences the others forgot..

    ..We say "eh?" not "HUH!??"

    ..We are alot nicer :)

  2. I'm not sure what you mean by "free". Canada's system of gov't and laws isn't all that different from the US.  Keep your passport up to date and you can travel between the two as often as you like.

  3. As compared to Americans, Canadians have limits on one of the most basic human rights - Freedom of Speech.

Their "hate speech" laws are very restrictive:

The could use a little persuasion by Voltaire:

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death your right to say it?"

  4. Differences between Canada and the US:

    Free universal health care.

    Lower crime rates.

Better standards on food products (meat, etc).

Canadian dollar is almost at par with the US dollar now (thank your president).

    Canada has better environmental laws.

    Canada isn't at war.

Canada doesn't have the Freedom of Information act that puts people wrongfully in jail.

I could go on, but....I'll preface by saying...Canada is just better!

  5. Some people claim here that health care in Canada is free.  It's not.  Just that we pay for it through our taxes, and have no choice in the matter.  But it certainly isn't free (I live in Ontario and three years ago our health tax jumped by $1000/year so health portion of my taxes are now over $2000/year).

The laws are very similar...the differences are minimal.  I have spent lots of time in the USA and have traveled across Canada several times.  We don't have the death penalty here any more, some US states still do.  Gee...can't think of too many laws that most people would run into that are different.  Just the usual stuff like flag, money and accents.  We use the metric system here...that's different.

  6. (1) restrictive gun ownership laws. (2) expensive taxation for health care. (3) costly products and food. (4) excessive union public workers put a heavy tax load on everyone else. (5) poor environment laws allows ruined wilderness areas.

  7. Why would you plan on moving to a country you know so little about?

What is it about americans?  They think they're the only ones in the world who have a good thing going?  So why are so many coming here?

If we don't like him can we send him home?

  8. canada is considered a free country and the laws are similar as long as you have a passport you can go visit the us when ever u want the laws arent as strict as they are in the us u should totally come its a great contry to live in

  9. If you apply to be an immigrant, so that you can work and use Canadian services you may be limited in the time you can be out of the country until you get your full citizenship.

If you are a tourist, not working, you can stay for up to six months without a problem.

  10. Why wouldn't you be allowed to go back? If you have gas or a plane ticket, then you can go right on back. That's assuming you didn't break any of Canada's laws and you're sitting in a jail cell.

  11. Canada actually admits to having a mixed economy (unlike the 'pure capitalist' United States), and since we pay slightly higher taxes, we have universal (not 'free') healthcare.  Also Canada has gun control, so we generally have lower crime rates, and of those, less are committed with firearms.

The higher taxes and more restrictive laws like gun control might lead some people to believe Canada is less 'free' than the States.

  12. i didnt know that canada isnt a free country, i think that i'd rather live here than the state, its less expensive for living- for the most part. and i think that its just a safer country overall.
