Question:

How is Evercare insurance?

My 67 year old mother has medicare health insurance. To cover the rest of payments that's not covered by medicare, she had Blue Cross Blue Shield. But she just changed to Evercare insurance starting this year. It's kinda complicated and I don't understand it... which would be better? Pros and cons would be there's no monthly premium with Evercare but you have to pay higher deductible when you use the services. If you've had Evercare, what do I need to know to make a better decision?

  1. Evercare health plans from United Healthcare are designed for persons with one or more chronic illnesses. The plan is a good fit for most people who have the condition and either do not have a Medicare supplement or a retiree group plan and have to choose from a Medicare Advantage plan because that is all they qualify for health wise. If the plan from BCBS was a Medicare Advantage plan, then Evercare will certainly be a better plan because as you stated, there is no monthly premium, the prescription formulary is geared for those that have the chronic illness, in some cases you have a care manager assigned to you to insure you are benefiting from all the services you are entitled to, and a catalog of items you can build up credits for and receive free, plus many more benefits. You do have to use network providers, but the network is large so no worry there. I personally write these plans and have had no complaints from the people I have enrolled in this plan. You are generally locked in with this plan for the entire year unless you have a special election period (SEP). Most people use their SEP to enroll in one of these type plans. Call your agent who enrolled your mother with Evercare and ask any questions you don't understand or you can call Evercare directly at 888-867-5518 and they will be glad to help. Hope this helped.
