I'm looking at how contradictions in George Orwell's novel 1984 make the novel more like present day. Like the whole 4+4=5 etc.. about how reality is is blurred by what the government wants you to think. What are some others? What are other ways (especially contradictions) that make 1984 more like present day?

  1. I have not read the book, but here are a couple of links that may help you.

  2. big brother is watching

  3. Is the present day exactly like 1984?no.  Are there similarities we should keep an eye on?absolutely.  Like one of the answers says there are video cameras everywhere and as technology improves who knows what those video cameras will be capable of doing.  Laws against invasion of privacy are being slowly eroded.  There is a monopoly of knowledge and information.   I can't be too specific because u never know when Big Brother is watching, but just think about all the major news headlines and issues over the last 15yrs, maybe you'll find evidence that supports what i'm saying.

  4. What goverment reminds you of the one in that book? Don't tell me "the Bush administration", because it's just silly to compare the two. As long as no one puts up cameras in every room and torture people all the time, you should be happy.

  5. Because video cameras are everywhere
