I've been noticing a lot of food packaging containing a "Halal" symbol printed on it. I know it's to do with the Muslim religion, but what exactly is it? More specifically, how is Halal meat different from normal meat? Are the animals fed differently? Different breeds? Nutritional content? What's the dealio here?

  1. in preparing halal meat, the animal must be killed in the name of God. Moreover, it must be slaughtered from the neck to let the blood flow out. It is different from "normal" meat as its bacteria count is much lower (it is more sanitary)

  2. I am no expert, but I believe it is the way the beast, animal is slaughtered.

  3. Hi Mate,

According to Muslims, the blessing of God must be invoked before the slaughter of an animal. This is Halal meat.

Other Halal products, wont contain pork or gelatine, which has extracts of pig's fat.

So nothing to do with the breeding of animals, rather the slaughter.

  4. Halal and Kosher are very very similar

  5. Halal food in general must be free from anything that is considered Haram(sinful) no pork or pork by products, no alcohol, no gelatine, must be a lawful animal such as cow, lamb, chicken, fish...e.t.c.

Must be feed no meat products...any animal that eats others to survive is unlawful to muslims, and lastly it must be killed according to islamic standards.

  6. No it is the exact same foods we buy

the USDA must still grade and inspect the meat

Religious Dietary laws ar mostly prayers and method of preparation..and another way to create jobs for the clergy☺

It also tends to isolate the faithful and keep them from assimilating..or learning

  7. Halal meat is a type of meat where when the animal is slayed, a prayer to god is said before the people kill the animal. I'm pretty sure that the prayer talks about how the people don't want to kill the animal for the sake of it, but to be alive themselves etc. Hope that helped :)
