I live in upstate new york, washington county. Our rent is 650.00 per month. My husband and I live together. We are both disabled my husband has an incurable cancer and is on his 4th round of radiation. Our son lived with us and moved out when he met someone on the computer. He moved to ohio.Washington county Hud wants to lower our share of the rent to 409.00 we had paid 441.00. Since our son left we lost 680.00 per month in rent. HUD only wants to lower it 32.00 dollars per month what a joke. I Have written letters and made a phone call and told them that I disagree with there decision and wanted to have the papers mailed to me for my reasons for what I believe is correct. The woman put me on hold for 15 minutes and never came back on the phone so I hung up. I have done much research on this matter as there are websites that you can look at. The only thing I can't find is a worksheet on how they figure what you the tenant pays and what they pay. I know a person that gets only a couple of hundred less per month then we do and she pays less than 80.00 per month and has two bedrooms. The HUD office told me since our son left we have to have the budget for a one bedroom apartment. This makes no sense. They have never been able to give me a straight answer why our rent is so high{our share} . I am honest and get the dirty end of the stick every time . If anyone knows any thing about this please answer back or if you know how I can contact please respond . thank you

  1. Don't you have a specific counselor at Section 8 that is assigned to you?  I know they have that in Alabama.  Maybe NY works differently?

In any case, I would suggest you go down to your local Section 8 office and sit down with a counselor, or keep following up by phone until you get a satisfactory answer.

    Good luck.

  2.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Am I to understand that you paid $440 rent but got $680 rent from your son? I am betting they did not know about that part. You were talking about being honest? You can get in a lot of trouble for that. So before you get all high and mighty. look at your own selves. You go right ahead and tell HUD that you were collecting $680 from your son every month ans see what they say/

I would have more sympathy for a non-hypocrite

  3. A common scenario is for HUD to pay $575 and you pay $75.  YOu can get evicted if you don't pay your share.

  4. It's a one bedroom for you, sounds like.
