Question:

How is Harajuku during the weekday?

I heard and see on TV many times of the fun of Harajuku during the weekend. Unfortunately, it's likely that i will be in Tokyo for 3-4 days but weekday only. Should I still go to Harajuku? Is there anything going on during the weekday? Thank you.

  1. Except for the Meiji Shrine, I wouldn't make Harajuku a priority for a weekday visit, but if you have some extra time you might check out Takeshita-dori (a street with very unusual clothing stores that is a hangout for "Harajuku Girls") and the entrance to Yoyogi Park (which is famous for the "costume players" who dress up in elaborate costumes).  There are far more costume players at the entrance to Yoyogi Park on weekends but you might see a few on a weekday.  If you want to try conveyor belt sushi, one of the best conveyor belt sushi restaurants is directly opposite the JR Harajuku station.  BTW, the Meiji Shrine is in Harajuku, and is one of the most beautiful in Tokyo, and one of the few that has a natural setting as opposed to being surrounded by modern buildings.

  2. The only difference is that its not that crowded during the weekdays. You will see more of Harajuku then. I miss the time where they will close the whole Harajuku road and will have people skateboarding, bands, dancers at the middle of the road stretching from Omotesando to Meiji-jingumae Station.

You can try checking Shibuya when you get there. Ginza, Ueno, Shinjuku. Going to Tokyo is just a delight on any day of the week.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Any area of Tokyo is amazing if you have never been there.

Try to find out if there is a Sumo tournement going on at Ryogukan.

Or, go see a Kabuki play at Kabuki-za in Ginza. The outside of that theatre alone is a sight to behold of its own.

Then there is Tokyo tower with amazing views from the top observatory.

And, don't forget Kaminarimon in Asakusa, or Meiji Jingu in Shinjuku.

You should also experience an onsen and sandbath at Oedo Onsen on Odaiba, which is a manmade island in Tokyo harbour.

  4. "Teenagers Nest".

"Ginza" and "Roppongi" are enjoyable at night.

  5. It's like asking how New York is during the weekday.

    Yes, go see it!

And stop by Ginza! They have a huge Sanrio store, I bought some limited edition Hello Kitty there. :)
