    1. Regions (Japan has 8 regions)

    2. Prefectures

    3. Subprefectures

    4. Designated cities

    5. Districts

    There are 47 prefectures within the regions.  Prefectures are

    like counties in the United States except they contain from 1-

    14 subprefectures.
