The ingredients for Red Bull Cola contain the Coca Leaf, which means Red Bull Cola contains traces of cocaine, which is the reason Coca Cola took coca out of its formula back in the 20s. How are Red Bull getting away with it?

  1. They're probably using a de-cocainized coca leaf extract.  Coca Cola still uses it.

  2. It's legal because whatever is in it isn't enough to cause any real problems. Red Bull and all such companies will ensure that they don't get into trouble with the law. Believe it.

  3. Apparently Coca Cola still uses a "de-cocanized extract of coca leaf".  So if you remove the cocaine then it is legal to use the rest of the leaf.  I assume Red Bull does the same thing but is more upfront about their ingredients.  There is a NYTimes article from the late 80s that still talks about coca in Coca Cola (in the source list),

and of course http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca is a good place to continue a further search if you like.

  4. Red Bull does not contain coca leaf. If it does then it has managed to hide this from all the various food inspection agencies it has been inspected by.
