How is Roger Federer playing in US Open?

I couldn't able to watch any of the US Open matches so far. Just would like to know if he is continuing his Grand Slam form. He usually seems much different in Grand Slams (more in control of his matches.) Let me know. Thanks in advance.

  1. i didn't watch his first match but i know he won easily, i'm watching this one and he's winning but in very close sets 63 75 32 and serve now, he's making a lot of unforced errors but his serve is helping him a lot as usual

edit: alves broke back, they're 3-3 now

you can watch it online here live for free:

edit: he won 64 the last set

  2. He played pretty well!

I know 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 doesn't sound terribly convincing, but his opponent Alves (brazilian qualifier) was handy player with a big forehand, and a consistent backhand. Alves made very few errors, and he really made Federer work for each point.

Federer played nicely though. He struck his forehand well, and his slice backhand was very effective (even if his one handed top spin backhand wasn't gr8).

He hit a hec of a lot of winners, and although he hit a lot of unforced errors, he looked invinsible and confident on the court.

The scoreline could have actually been a bit more convincing, especially in the second set where Federer only converted 1/13 break points.

Also the only reason that FedEx hit so many errors was because Alves was so good at putting the ball in the court - most of the problems he ahd were similar problems which he has vs Nadal.

Watch the highlights though - some of Federer's strokemaking was truely breath-taking.

However there are areas which will need to be improved - volleying (he missed alot of simple volleys, and some of his approachs were a bit weak) - serve return (he was chipping alot of timid serves back half court, where a better player could take advantage of this)

Generally however i was impressed with FedEx and he looked truly formidable as he always does in majors - my tip for the championship!!!

  3. he won againts the otehr guy....Alves.

  4. Mighty good.

He just beat the other bloke in 3 sets

  5. He still isnt the Roger we're used to, but he is playing well.  He is having these "Oh My" moments during each match, but manages to get through them.  Qualifers are pretty darn tough this year no matter who they're playing.
