How is Scarlett compared to Gone With the Wind?

The book, Scarlett. I found that it's written by a different author, although a relative of Margaret Mitchell. It also seems like it doesn't have great ratings- at least not compared to GWTW. Any input?

  1. GWTW is my favourite novel, but I refused to read the "sequel" since it wasn't written by Mitchell, and it garnered bad reviews. The synopsis of the plot wasn't all too interesting either. Scarlett goes off to "win Rhett back" but by the time she sees him again he is married I believe. It is something like that but that's just my opinion.

  2. I found that Scarlett was really out of character in the book Scarlett.  Until one point i thought "oh finally! this is the scarlett that's in GWTW!!"

It has an interesting enough plot although slow moving in some parts.  Some parts are also out of character but overrall i was glad that i read it-it had closure that GWTW didn't have, really.

Rhett Butler's People wasn't that good, in my opinion.  I guess i just liked the ending of Scarlett better.  It also wasn't Rhett's POV throughout the entire book or his thoughts all throughout Gone with the Wind.  It changed POV's a lot.

  3. Many people feel it doesn't measure up. Personally I feel it's fine for entertainment, but doesn't capture the spirit of the South like GWTW did. That's one of the reasons the author moved the story to Ireland, which was disappointing. You should just treat it as alternate ending/your fave fanfiction. Margaret Mitchell intended it to end there.

  4. GWTW is one of my all time favorite books and to be honest, the sequel just doesn't do it. Sure, I read Scarlett, but only because curiosity got the better of me. The second book just doesn't have the same "bang" as the first. Its not as horrible as some make it out, but its not that great either. I sound so "Switzerland" on this but hey, you never know, you might actually like it. I know a few people that enjoyed the book, so its worth a shot :]

  5. Gone With the Wind is my favorite book ever. I also refuse to read Scarlett, but I did read Rhett Butler's People(I can't remember the author, sorry) and I believe it was written  within the past few years. I thought Rhett Butler's People was REALLY good since it's Rhett's side of the story. The author did a great job writing Rhett's side, though I'm sure Margaret Mitchell would have done better. I highly suggest you read it instead of Scarlett. I really hope this helps!

*EDIT-To the person below me, I never said it was was Rhett's point of view, it's what went on on his side. Anyways, in the Rhett Butler's people, the characters stay pretty much the same as in GWTW and I believe the end gives  very good closure.
