Question:

How is Seat Height Measured on Motorcycles?

I'm 5' 7'' and looking for a Dual Sport motorcycle. At the moment, my interest is towards a Honda XR250.

The seat height on the XR250 is 36 inches. How is this measured? Is it measured from the highest point of the seat towards the back of the seat? Or is it measured by where you actually sit (the lowest point of the seat)?

36 inches is very high ... Thanks.

  1. it is measured at the point where the rider sits,of course it is high ,a D.P. machine is intended to go off road occasionally and needs the extra suspension travel

  2. bike by itself....highest point of the seat to the floor

  3. The seat height is measured at the lowest point of the riders seat.

The Honda XR250 is not a dual purpose bike - it's an off road bike and not street legal.

The dual purpose model is an XL250 or XR250L - check to see if the seat height is different between the two models.

  4. this is measured from the riders position to the ground

  5. I don't know much about metric bikes, but on a Harley it's where you sit. I'm 5'9" and there would be no way I could touch the ground at 36" I have an 08 Harley Street Glide and the seat height on it is 26". Hope that helps.
