  1. way overrated

    much better option is budakan in the meat packing district

  2. I honestly don't know why people rave about it, i have been there several times, and have never really been please with it, honestly there are soooooo many better places to go in the city.  Go to Citysearch.com, search new and notable, read reviews, it really is a useful site and much better then going off of what others say when it comes to dropping $$$ in a NY restaurant.

    You want good go down to Meat Packing district, all kinds of restaurants and i can't tell you how many celebs i've seen down there(i promise).

    Couple Suggestions;

    Buddakhan

    Ono(The Gansevort-Hotel) & they have a great roof bar for after dinner

    Sacha

    Matsuri(Maritime Hotel)

  3. I haven't been to the NY one, but I have been to the one in Vegas (where Paris Hilton has often been spotted) and I must agree...HIGHLY overated.  It was very expensive for food that frankly wasn't worth it.  It's totally all abt celebrity watching (although I didn't see any!).  All I saw were throngs of celebrity watchers and wannabes...dressed to impress no doubt...but its the kind of vain atmosphere where everyone is wearing Jimmy Choos and is 80 lbs and you wonder if anyone is even really eating.

    Anyway...I ordered sushi and it was good but very standard...I could probably find better traditional sushi at a hole in the wall place and more interesting sushi elsewhere.  My bf ordered filet mignon and he was extremely disappointed...it was overcooked.  The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good, but it was very crowded and noisy.  I wouldn't necessarily never go back...but I certainly wouldn't recommend it either.  Does not live up to the hype unfortunately.

    I agree...Buddakan is better...at least the food is.

    btw - Sacha is closed.

  4. as far as attire...dress like you were going to a club....trendy attire.

    celebrities:  maybe a wed. or a thurs. night...

    the food is good...but certainly not the best in new york, but it is quite tolerable, but with TAO, people go because it's a hot spot, very trendy, not so much because they are in love with the food...

    make reservations as far in advance as you can....

  5. Delicious! great for people watching, beautiful scenery and amazing food.
