  1. Traditional Zeppelins were controlled by a helmsman, an elevator man, a coxwain, and a watch officer.  Each engine (up to eight engines) had one or more mechanics in charge.

The flight deck included engine room telegraphs for signalling orders to the engine room crews, juat as on a steamship.

The coxwain was in charge of valves for releasing ballast (to lighten the ship) and valves for releasing gas (only when absolutely necessary) to reduce lift.

The helm and elevator wheels controlled the rudders and elevators, respectively.

Modern airships, including the Zeppelin NT, have radically different controls, much more like those of an airplane.  The pilot uses rudder pedals and an elevator wheel, and all the valves and engine controls are within reach of the one pilot.

For much more information, pictures, and diagrams, do an internet search on "airship."

  2. it has a control car on the bottom and a back uup control room in the low rear fin
