How is a candle wick made?

Candle wick is usually made of a tightly spun cotton cord or thread. You can buy it at most craft stores.

For a while back in the 80's a craft called candle wicking was very popular. People would buy candle wick and do needle point with it. Usually they made designs out of french-knots. I remember do a project in home-ecc. (Am I that old?)

But it is the same cord used for making candles. I guess if you know how to spin yarn or thread you can make it. Modern day thread is produced at a big factory with heavy machines. The candle wick is made like all the rest of it.
