My fiance recently purchased an engagement ring for me off ebay for $250. I got it appraised through an indiviudal jewelry appraiser and it was worth $4,000. (I know an awesome deal) We were in the middle of moving (had movers helping us) and now I can't find it anywhere. Between packing, cleaning, and everything else associated with moving, I'm not sure when the ring came off...It was about a size too big, but I didn't want to get it re-sized just yet. I was enjoying it and didn't want to part with it right away.
We searched high and low and I am devastated. I've had it for all of 10 days and I don't know how the insurance company will look at this. We had it insured as soon as I got it appraised, but don't know how I should file a claim.I don't know if the movers saw it and pocketed it (they said they did not see a ring) and I don't know if I should file a police report.
So, I'm wondering if the insurance will consider the price paid for it, or the worth in determing an amount to award (if any). Their jargon is awarding money based on the lesser of the the amount you need to purchase it back or the amount of the ring.
Who is to say that we can find another deal like that? Will they really give us only $250?
Thank you for any and all advice/comments.
