How is a newborn is tested for low blood sugar - when the mom has gestational diabetes ?

  1. if born in a hospital, they do multiple glucose tests, normally starting with a heel prick and use a monitor just like the mom would have been already doing for herself.  if the baby is found to have blood sugar issues, then it gets more involved.  hth!


  2. they can take it with their other blood tests or prick their heel to get it

  3. i had gestational diabetes with my son and all they do is prick the babys heel and take a blood sample. my sons was really low after he was born and they gave him sugar water and it went up to normal.  

  4. They prick the bottom of their foot like they would an adults finger.
