How is a person's needs for life insurance before and after retirement?

I need to know a persons needs for life insurance before and after they retire

They need larger coverage when they are younger and raising a family.This will cover the loss of income if they are the breadwinner and will provide income for the spouse and children.  After they retire, they really only need enough to cover burial expenses and would be better off to invest their money that they would spend on higher premiums.
