How is a train ride? Bumpy? Scary?

I've never rode a train and I am thinking of taking the train up to Chicago some weekend. How is the ride? (It'd be about 3 hours)

Not so bumpy that you cant get up and walk around.  Better than a bus.

Not bumpy like you have to worry about it.  Just bumpy like you would want to describe it to others.

You'll find it fun and enjoyable.  You will be relaxed and not worry about the ride.

Well, it depends on the route !!  Most US passenger routes are gonna be SMOOTH... and any "bumps" will be amusing rather than scary.

I'm on the WEST Coast, and our commuter line (CALTRAIN) is almost ALL concrete ties with welded rail.. it is as smooth as GLASS !!

BUT, a section of the ACE (Altamont Commuter Express) Train runs on UP (Union Pacific) freight track that is bumpy and uneven... the train rocks and rolls for about 5 minutes.

I can OFTEN fall asleep on the train it is so smooth !!

A little bumpy, but quite enjoyable.  You can sit back and watch the scenery go by.  It's been a long time, but I've always enjoyed my train trips.  good luck.

dont expect to be perfectly on time if your going Amtrak.

it'll be fun. watch the scenery go by, it's nice & cool in the railcar, people to chat with...I loved my x-country ride i took a few years ago. loved it. 3 days of laziness hahaha

kinda bumpy, but in a good/not scary way. and alot more interesting (to me) and cheaper than a plane.

alittle bumpy. but youl get use to it. plus trains are cheap so its well worth it

The train ride is not scary at all. The only thing is it can be sometimes bumpy when they are going over the switches and interlocking. All and all it is not bad.
