  1. Today there are some direct runnings by ICE. It's very fast, running at 300 kmph between Frankfurt and Cologne.

  2. Not bad.  I can't remember the exact length I think we took the overnight from Zurich to Frankfurt to Amsterdam, and it wasn't too long at all, so I dont think from Franfurt to Amsterdam would be bad.

Overall if your train rides are longer than 8 hours take a flight, and avoid night trains in general if you actually intend to get any sleep.

  3. I have taken this trip myself many times, though not for some years now.

The scenery is fantastic north of Frankfurt and around Cologne, along the side of the Rhine river. Plenty of castles to see too.

It may have changed now, but I remember having to change trains further north in Germany, either Dusseldorf or Duisburg.

Even though I wasn't particularly wealthy, I always spent the extra money to travel first class and it really enhanced the trip.

I seem to remember took maybe 5 or 6 hours total, though not sure now.

  4. great!

    take the new ICE-International line

(3:57) you don't have to change the train

  5. should only be a few hours unless you  have scenic stops then maybe half a day
