  1. in both cases we stepped in to stop a conflict that has gone on for 500 to 3000 yrs among local tribes. this won't work as the people have ideals honed for generations. the war in vietnam goes on today it just isn't on the news. people are still dieing there in armed conflict daily. yes we cannot make everyone tow our line but vietnam never brought their war ideals to lay waste to new york highrises

  2. oil!

  3. It's similar in that both times, both administrations were convinced that an ideological difference could be resolved with conventional warfare.  Both were wrong.

Communism or Islamic Terroism can never be stopped by carpet bombing, tactical strikes, or occupation.

There is also the false belief that Capatilism and Democracy are somehow inheritantly right for every society or culture just because it works (most of the time) for the West and anything that conflicts with that view is wrong (does that sound familiar Islamic fundamentalist fans?)

  4. firstly   no the war in nam is over.  secondly they are totally different.  In vietnam we wanted to stop the evolution of communism, seeing as how vietnam isnt oil rich and all.  Iraq was mainly about control.  if it was oil we would take over the country not give it back.  it was about hussein and his radical behavior.

  5. I just wish it were over with.

  6. history repeats itself
