  1. I thought I'd try to answer your question since no-one else has tried so far, and I have been to San Carlos fairly recently.  I'm not a mountain biker, though - so I can only give you a walker's perspective.  San Carlos is absolutely beautiful, and a little bit mountainous.  It isn't located very far off the highway, you make a right and head toward the water (Gulf of California).  The beginning of San Carlos is fairly flat, and the road winds around a large curve as it passes the center of town and heads toward the Gulf of California.  I don't remember there being much of an incline until we got past the downtown area, and began to go toward the old ClubMed area.  You go up a bit of a hill, and on either side of you the rock is a beautiful clay color.  When you come down the other side, you are facing the water and there is a spectacular view.  You go downhill and can go either left or right, either way, the road slopes down for several miles.  If you were to ride all the way to the end, and then turn back, you would have a fair uphill climb to get back to that first vista.  I'm not really sure about off-roading into the hills, but I can describe the terrain to you - it is very arid and desert-like, with cacti and rugged/jagged hills around you.  There are probably a lot of desert creatures you would meet in those areas - possibly lizards or snakes?  I don't know.  Either way, San Carlos is fantastically beautiful and they do have a lot of other things to offer there like sport fishing and kayaking, and an internet cafe.

My husband is a seasoned cyclist and I asked him your question - he said that he isn't sure because he has never biked through there... but then he said he'd love to go back to find out!

Best of luck to you, hope your vacation is fun.
