    PCR is typically used to amplify DNA found at crime scenes, and the DNA is matched to individuals using some kind of polymorphism analysis (which identifies unique individuals)...that analysis being by restriction enzymes (RFLP) or perhaps direct sequencing of particular highly polymorphic sites.

    Biochemistry also uses advanced instruments such as mass spectrometry and chromatography, which can find applications in forensic science.
