One example would be crops that have been genetically modified so that they are resistant to pests and diseases.

Another example is the production of insulin for use as medicine by diabetics.   Biotech companies such as Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk use Recombinant DNA technology to produce this insulin.  Grafting human DNA into an E. coli cell allows the cell to produce human insulin.
