  1. its very sad, especially when you have to sit near the lobsters and listen to them scream, but it's just like shooting a deer, or cutting off a fishes head. Most meat eaters believe God put those kinds of animals on earth to feed us.

  2. well if ya think about it, anything we do to other animals is not considered cruel. ie if we accidentily run a squirrel over or somethign liek that but if we do something to our own kind or a different kind animal attacks us we cry cruelty and outrage? humans are more and more spoiled and arent grateful for much anymore thats why. theyll kil but dont want ot be killed.

  3. Because they do not have the same pain-recepting nerve endings like we do, so they do not feel any pain when they are cooked. When they are boiling you will hear a sound that sounds like they are screaming but it is just the water boiling through openings in the body. So don't worry, they can't feel a thing. But that is very compassionate of you to have such a thought! :)

  4. Very Good Question to ask.

  5. dont no srry

  6. Boiling a lobster to eat is not considered animal cruelty, but killing or boiling one for fun, is.  The same goes for hunting and fishing.

These animals were given to us as natural food resources, not to be taken advantage of but used when necessary.  Animals kill other animals for food, and so do we.  It is the purpose and the method which determines cruelty.  Lobsters do not feel the pain of being boiled.

If you consider it to be cruel, then don't eat it.  This is why there are vegetarians and vegans.  It is their choice and that's okay, too.

  7. It's important to remember that lobsters aren't dropped into cold water and slowly brought to the boil. They're dropped into water that's already boiling, and as a result are dead in a matter of seconds. This is probably the most humane way of killing an animal with a hard exoskeleton - trying to decapitate it or whack it over the head would likely cause greater suffering, especially since more than one blow could be required. Contrary to popular belief, lobsters do not 'scream' when dropped into boiling water - they have no vocal chords, and cannot scream. The sound is the air trapped in the carapace escaping.

  8. Boiling Lobsters is not counted as animal cruelty because people think that it is not cruel as they are of opinion that lobsters don't feel pain.

But even if people knew the truth about it they wouldn't stop eating it as it is convenient to kill something which is small, can be captured easily and more evidently because their tongues like the taste of it.

But new studies have revealed that they do feel pain.

Here is an article which appeared in The Guardian, Thursday November 8 , 2007

    Here is another one -

    So they do feel pain.

  9. Lobsters and crabs have some capacity of learning, but it is unlikely that they can feel pain

Most invertebrates, including lobsters, crabs, worms, snails, slugs and clams probably don't have the capacity to feel pain.

Lobster's primitive nervous system and underdeveloped brain are similar to that of an insect. While lobsters react to different stimuli, such as boiling water, the reactions are escape mechanisms, not a conscious response or an indication of pain

  10. I would say that it is most definitely animal cruelty. Same with killing fish.

  11. that's true. but they are good though especially with a side of fried shrimp and crab cakes, f*cking excellent!

  12. there is insufficent evidence that they feel pain

  13. Like so many other things in this world, we justify our inhumane and murederous actions with our insatiable greed and our keen ability to avoid taking responsibility for our actions.

Just take a look at the pet store industry or the pro-choice movement.
