  1. One kills you, one doesn't.  They are both carbon based, one has one particle of oxygen (oxide) and the other has two...hence the mono versus the di in the prefix of the word.

  2. DIoxide= two oxygen atoms bonded to carbon.

MONoxide=one oxygen atom bonded to carbon.

  3. It is a different compound.  It is a single carbon atom bonded with two oxygen atoms instead of one for one.

  4. Dioxide has two oxygen molecules, monoxide has one.

  5. it has an extra oxygen atom

    (carbon monoxide = CO)

    (carbon dioxide = CO2)

  6. Silly question, but i'll answer. Carbon Dioxide is what people exhale and plants use to create oxygen. (C02)

Carbon Monoxide is a very poisonus gas that has no smell which sometimes infects homes and many people get Carbon Monoxide detectors. It also comes out of cigarette smoke.

  7. Carbondioxide has a formula CO2 It has 1 carbon atom and 2 oxygen atoms but carbonmonoxide having the formula CO has 1 Carbon and oxygen atoms each. The difference is in their no. of oxygen atoms. Moreover CO is poisonous while  CO2 is harmful.Co is formed Due to incomplete combustion.
