i know i should probably know the answer but i was thinking. how EXACTLY is cold air made? i know heat is created when molecules move extremely fast, so obviously it is a slowing of molecules. but is there a way to lower the molecules speed? something that man could control. like how do refrigerators work n whatnot.

  1. For the most part, air is chilled by either radiating it's heat or more effectively, by losing it's heat by conduction to a colder surface.  In weather, this effect is particularly evident in the wintertimes when air resides over large snow-covered areas like the South Pole, or Siberia.  That snow cover shields the air from the heat of the ground, thus the air loses it's heat both by radiation and by contact with the cold snow cover.  The chilling air becomes denser and heavier, and will begin spreading out into other areas.
