How is community arts effective?

How, in your opinion, is community arts workshops, effective? How do you think it helps a community or vulnerable people.

For example, "this workshop provides a service for young people in deprived area's. It gives them a chance to meet new people and gets them off the streets."

Community arts, like any other arts practice, gets people thinking in different directions to what they are used to. It gets them thinking about working towards a common goal as a team, with each person doing a specific job or playing a specific part.

The arts gives communities and individuals a way to channel all sorts of emotions: joy, grief, anger, and on and on. It's a way to celebrate good things and explore negative factors of life. It gets people thinking in an empathetic way.
