How is cottage cheese made?!?

Okay today i look in the fridge at the shop my husband works for and there is ROTTEN milk.... YUCK well when i went to dump it out it was like cottage cheese nasty and stuff ... && my husband is all well how do you think cottage cheese is made then?!? is it really made with rotten milk or what?!? sorry im curious

  1. Well that is more like how sour cream is made.  The acid that is produced by bacteria causes the clumping. That bacteria is not necessarily harmful.  But it is gross if you were thinking you were getting a gulp of sweet milk.

    Cottage cheese is also made from milk. A "culture" is added which is a specific kind of bacteria that breaks down certain sugars and proteins in the milk.

    Cottage cheese is a little sour, isn't it?  That doesn't mean it is bad or harmful.  In fact, all cheese is made from putting different kinds of agents in it (some are bacterias, some are acids, etc).

    Isn't food amazing, wonderful and just a little bit magical?


  2. Cottage cheese is made from milk in which the curd and whey are separated, but the curd is not pressed, colored, or flavored.  It is not made from spoiled milk, but milk does separate into curds and whey when it spoils.
