How is electricity in the body generated?

Question

When I read about the brain sending electrical signals to nerve endings, I wonder how these signals are produced.

I would think that most of us are familar with electricity being produced by generators being turned by water, steam, gas, etc. Just how are electrical signals produced in the human body?

chemically like in a battery; an excitement results in producing hormones; the hormones produce potential difference;

I do not know a detailed answer as I am not a biologist, but the basic principle is relatively straight forward.

Cells can create a potential difference (a voltage) between them and their surroundings by pumping sodium ions (charged particles) in or out of them.  This voltage can allow current to flow.
