  1. Well energy can't be wasted but fossil fuels can and thats what people use. Fossil flues include: natural gas, oil, and coal. These are non- renewable resources and if they run out humans will have no resources to power up homes. Luckly there are alternative resources like water, wind, solar, etc. these resources can be used over and over again. Fossil fuels also hurt the enviorment

  2. Just adding to the above comment.  It may not that we use all our natural resources.  But it will drive the cost of those resources up as less and less supply typically drives costs up.  if you want to continue paying more and more for gas, car, airline tickets, the food that arrives to your supermarket by car/plane/train, the goods you purchase that arrive to the store by car/plante/train, then just keep doing what you're doing.  no problem for you.

But many others would rather use the nat'l resources more efficiently and if we can make better products that use less of them or zero thats even better because our planet is multiplyinng in population and using more and more every second resources every day.

  3. Almost all of the burning that is done to convert fossil fules into electricity to light and gas to heat your home emits various toxic substances into the earth.

Coal:  Coal is stored carbon - when it's mined (often times using explosives) it releases that carbon into the atmosphere which is a known green house gas.

The blast/strip mining of coal that is done to keep up with our insatiable need for more electricity depletes forests, mountains and natural streams.  Debris from strip mining has completely covered up over 1000 natural water streams in West Virgina Alone.

The burning of coal to convert to electricity releases additional carbon into the air.  Additionally, a bi-product of that conversion process is mercury which is released into the environment through the ground and water systems.  It's toxic to fish, other wildlife and people.  You've heard of the mercury content in fish getting higher - that's because of coal burning factories.

If you reduce the amount of energy you use through some really simple strategies, you will reduce the amount of coal that is demanded to produce that electricity, and reduce the amount that goes into the air, ground and water through the mining and burning of coal.

That's one example of how energy waste negatively impacts the environment.
