How is funding for Archeology digs is done ?

for instance like stanford university if a proffesor as an Idea for a possible location does he submit it and to whom and what if their is competing proffesors for thier digs?

  1. This is usually done through grants from museums or places like the National Geographic Society.  

    You write them, tell them of what you expect to accomplish, where it will take place; and how long you expect to be there and the like.


  2. It's very difficult. Its almost like having to "Sell" your idea. You have to convice them that you and your idea is worth investing money in. You also have to show them how your discovery would be significant and how they could make money off of it. Secondly you have make sure the area isn't under some kind of protection from the local or state government. it's very very difficult, thats why so many people just rob the sites, It takes less time. (im not saying it should be done)
