How is global warming NOT our fault?

Question

On monday I have to have a debate with my friend in class over whether global warming is our fault or not. But the bad thing is......... that i have to say why it ISN'T our fault. I have no idea what points I should bring up or how it isn't our fault. HELP ME!!!

I recycle, and do all that going green stuff but I still do'nt believe that there is a hole in the ozone layer.

First of all, in my opinion of course, it's a natural cycle. You've seen the ice age, the age of where the whole world was water, and you've seen the temperate age like right now. It's off and on - a cycle. With cars, pollution, etc., we humans have just sped it up. We didn't start it. We weren't alive and using cars back when the dinosaurs were around, were we? No.

The world is an ever changing evolving mass if you look at all the changes the world has gone through in its recorded history you will see that it has heated up and cooled down two times before man ever did a thing to change it.  Humans thing they are the center of the universe because it strokes there ego but really the earth moves on its on axis without any help from us and goes through cycles that it needs to go through.  If its warming now who is to say in 100 years we are not heading towards an ice age.  

It has only been in the last 40 years that we have had any way of measuring the earths ozone so this could all be a very normal thing.

Global climate change is not entirely our fault. You will just have to say that word entirely. There is no scientific evidence that says it's ENTIRELY caused by human activity. The scientific community states that human activity is correlated to global climate change. The person you will be debating has science on her side. She will win it.

because earth tempature changes always. It was an THEORY out of the 70's that was widly accapted then so most poeple doesn't know better than that. If you look at the global temperture inthe last 65 milioen years you see that the the most CO2 was at the time of the ice age.

The ONLY thing that CO2 does is letting plant grow much faster!

Well you might just point out that we are still between 5 and 10 degrees cooler than it was at the end of the last ice age 11,000 years ago. We are still 10 to 15 degrees cooler than it was during the Roman warm period when Jesus lived and the same cooler than it was during the medieval warm period when the Vikings established farms in Greenland where it is still to cold for that now. The Eskimos during the medieval warm period farmed in parts of Greenland and Newfoundland that are still under ice or frozen during the summer today.

Sound historical evidence available to anybody that wants to read it shows that this is nothing but a normal part of the cycle this and other worlds go through and is driven by the output of that big hydrogen furnace we call the sun. Lots of sunspots and things get warm, plants grow better, people eat better, Have more children and populations increase because of longer northern growing seasons. Few sun spots and things cool down, weather gets extreme, plants die off in northern climes, people starve and world population shrinks as food production falls as the growing season shrinks.

Global warming is a good thing, global cooling is a bad thing this has been well proven at least 5 times in recorded history.

We aren't capable of affecting our weather that profoundly...it affects US!

That said, there's nothing wrong with taking measures to help what's within our control...but people making demonstrations of "it's affect" by swimming in the Arctic Ocean would impress me more if they opted for doing it in January...rather than July!!

I'd also get more impressed if its loudest proponent was an actual scientist, rather than Al Gore....funny that a politician is the first one to sound an alarm!

People here are saying it's a natural cycle, look at the ice age...Yes it's true the earth will naturally go through temperature changes but the earth is warming! not cooling!!! 183 scientists around the world all agree global warming is largely caused by man and because of the rapid changes it's different to the usual slow natural changes the earth would cause. It's already causing the extinction of many species and research has found we may be going through a 6th mass extinction! A mass extinction is the extinction of 50% or more of the planets species. extinction levels are 12X higher than background levels of extinctions (natural extinctions) this is greatly due to global warming, isn't it strange how mankind now has the ability to polute the environment on a large scale and all of a sudden, loads of animals are going extinct! coincidence? i think not!

Global warming is a natural effect that keeps this planet alive and it fluctuates over thousands of years. The ice age is a great example of this. Greenhouse gases are about 95% naturally made. We ad such a small amount that it doesn't have an effect worthy of noting.

The current trend is to blame CO2 emissions. Well plants breath CO2 and in return give off oxygen. It is an amazing but true balancing act that keeps the planet in check.

We are not capable of destroying the planet, only ourselves.

You are lucky to be on that side of the arguement because it's the right side. 1) The climate of the Earth has been changingfor millions of years, humans have no effect on the overal climate of the earth. 2) Scientists have yet to prove that changes in C02 cause the earth to heat up. Some eveidence  points to the climate getting hotter and then more C02 being released into the atmosthshpere. 3) The polar ice caps are NOT melting. Some of the ice in the north pole may be melting, but more ice than ever is appearing in the South Pole. Al Gores's An inconveinent Truth is full of lies and doesn't even use real pictures. The main scenes of the movie used the fake sets from The Day After Tomorrow, explain that Al Gore!!!!

BECAUSE MAN HAS'NT ANYTHING TO DO WITH GLOBAL WARMING. ALL NON-SOLIDS DECIPATE IN THE FRIDGID AIR ABOVE OUR HEADS. It isn't our fault except for the smog and pollution that cause bad air quality, especially in larger cities.   But does this really cause the globe to warm?  That is debatable.  As a meteorologist for nearly 30 years,  I can tell you,  that the weather in and of itself is highly complicated.   Little variations in heat transfer can cause massive storms and this was true before any warming was ever detected...

well even though i think it is people there is plenty of evidence that its not. the earth has been in existence for billions of years. humans are just a blink of an eye in the earths history. people are so sad that polar bears will be extinct, but think about all the animals that went extinct in the ice age. im not a religious person but i think god put us on earth so we could destroy it. so that he could start over or so that he could go to rest.

but all we were trying to do way back when was trying to make life better & easier for us but while we were doing this we never thought about what harm we were actually doing...

Point out that temrpratures have risen and fallen in the past.  For example, during the medevil warm period (1100-1450) tempratures were also rising, did we have big suv's rising at that time. Funny thing is that between 1940's to 1970's, there use to be big talk about a ice age comming. You should research and see how much oil was used in this country, becuase oil use on "per capita" basis has declined in this country.

Look at this, in America, there is often the La Nino and La Nina. Both of these bring different type of tempratures in the U.S, for a period of time.

Your arguement should basically be that tempratures have risen an d fallen over time. This shows, that it is natural forces which are impacting, it could simply be the position of the sun.

Wow, you are in a pickle, because there is no credible evidence one way or another on the internet. You are going to have to go to a library, and probably a university library at that.

Moreover, I have spent months searching through all of the journals specifically trying to find a peer reviewed article that says that there is not a connection between man and global warming, and I do not think there is one.

Beware of mentioning so called polls, especially those that say they polled scientists. There is no legal definition of a scientist. In fact, you are one.

When scientists do research they publish their findings in peer reviewed journals. They give no credence whatsoever to anybody that has findings that have not been duplicated by another study.  Especially research of this type that require statistical analysis.

Oh boy you're in trouble.  If you literally have to argue that it's not our fault, you can argue that humans were burning fossil fuels long before we knew it would cause major global warming.  If you can't know your actions will cause a certain effect, then it's not necessarily your fault.

But there's really no doubt that humans have caused global warming.  Some people will tell you that it's the Sun or a natural cycle, but that's simply not true (see link below).
