The truth about it is that it is a moral issue. Al Gore's jet makes virtually no impact on climate change. In fact, there's nothing we can do to stop it in the near term, and the dice are already rolling on the table. Our own personal energy use makes very little difference. Only a massive alteration in worldwide energy technology will be enough to stave off a bleak future. Then of course, the right wing free market fundamentalists are doing their best to persuade people it doesn't exist, not because they care about the science, but because they are afraid how it will effect big business.
