How is global warming and ozone depletion similar?

the question is "how is ozone depletion like other problems we have faced in our collectice world history?"

the only thing I can think of is global warming...is there anything else?? and how is it like ozone depletion??

Ozone depletion happens up in the stratosphere. Chlorine atoms interact with direct sun light in the form of ultraviolet radiation to destroy ozone. Two schools of thought on this is that its man’s fault for releasing chlorofluorocarbons or (CFC’s) which are transported up into the stratosphere over time. This is a theoretical reaction that takes place, because this has never been observed to happen in the laboratory, therefore, it is has never been recorded to happen in the stratosphere.

The other  way to think of this is that the chlorine from natural sources such as volcanoes and sea water are transported up to the stratosphere by tornados, hurricanes, and the jet stream where they essentially destroy the ozone layer. This would negate the first theory even if it were true, because the amount of chlorine is 1000’s of times greater than man’s contribution.

Global warming is when the earth’s temperature increases over a long time, which is called climate change by many today. Again you have the global warming people jumping on man, blaming the CO2 emissions for warming the planet.

Gore main evidence comes from ice samples taken in the artic, that have shown a correlation of temperature to CO2. He has stated that the increase in CO2 causes the increase in temperatures over time. Some points about his theory is that his graph shows that increasing CO2 lags behind temperature increases by 800 years.  

Another point of view is that global warming is naturally occurring over time. The popular theory now is that it is the sun which causes global warming and not CO2. Sun spot activity plots show that when the sun is active, the temperature is warmer, and visa versa. The battle over global warming goes on. I have a few links to go to in support of this :

You are on the right track.  We are contribution throughout history to polluting the atmosphere which affects the ozone (holes in it) & the heat from the sun gets through the holes & heats us up like aquariums.

They are quite different.  In fact Ozone is depleted by aerosols which also lead to global cooling.  If we used more (a lot more) aerosols we would not have global warming -- but we would all die of skin cancer.

Its quite a balance act.

The invisible beams from around the world is weakening the invisible forcefield (OZONE) but not depleating it otherwise our worlds fridgid air would escape and its not.. also outer space would be coming through making our world smaller, but thats not happening either. a survey was taken at the Institute of Oregon for scientist and the scientist concurred that global warming was'nt caused by man= all non-solids decipate in the fridgid air above our heads outside. This could only mean that another specie wants earth and their technology is much more advanced as man's technology. but we do have a solution to delete Global Warming and by placing a certain mineral under all oceans in certain locations to allow nature to return to normal naturally, so that all season's will return to normal for you===the young.

Ozone depletion is like any other man made problem that hurts the environment, be it acid rain, deforestation, pollution, etc.
