I know it is not. They are two different things. But there's people who think they are the same. How come? What do they see that makes them think so?

  1. Americanization is a PART of globalization...

The USA culturally dominates other cultures. I'd guess they are the largest minority of many different cultures of the world. Bollywood and Chinese cinema are strong, but they generally are locally strong film makers. Every country has a news service, but CNN has in many places usurped the once dominant position of the BBC in world wide reach. Hip Hop and Rap can be heard throughout the world as well.

The USA is also the largest market in the world. China may outstrip them in years to come, but per capita GDP is many times greater in the USA. As such, they get to drive many types of production and business models.

On the foreign policy front, the USA is powerful enough to act unilaterally when world organizations disagree with US decisions. This has happened and the repercussions of their decisions are felt world wide.

There is a lot of interchange of ideas, culture, economics and politics that have nothing to do with the USA. But although globalization on these other fronts have been occurring, globalization by and for the USA is felt much more universally.

    Peace
