i was diagnosed with it last year but my doctor won't put me on medication for it and from the research i've done i've found that most doctors don't treat it unless tsh levels are out of range. so unfortunately i'm left feeling like complete **** all of the time. i really want to get this taken care of by whatever means necessary.

  1. AzR's answer is a good one. If you're looking for alternative therapy, you need to see a Naturopathic practitioner.

It might help to give your immune system a boost by doing a liver cleanse. Use a liquid extract of Milk Thistle Seed (aka Silymarin) in combination with Burdock root and Dandelion root. It may be labeled as "Liver Cleanse" or "Liver Support." If it were me, this would be my first line of defense as auto-immune disorders indicate a toxic liver and/or spleen.

Also get away from all fluoride and chlorine, which means a high-quality bottled water like Penta. Non-fluoride toothpaste. Also take a supplement of natural iodine; either Kelp or Bladderwrack. For a time, avoid all cole veggies (cabbage, turnips, broccoli, kale, etc.) Might also help to take a dessicated thyroid supplement for a couple of months.

  2. Have them check your circulating T3/T4 thyroid hormone levels. In many cases doctors only check TSH, as it is rare for it to be out of sync with T3 and T4. The basic problem of Hashimoto's is that the thyroid is slowly destroyed by the immune system, decreasing it's output of thyroid hormones. So it is usually treated with replacement Thyroid hormone (Typically Synthyroid).

Feeling like complete c**p is a symptom of hypothyroidism, so you should ask your doctor to check all three hormone levels. The problem with treating it before hormone levels drop is that you can induce hyperthyroidism with synthetic thyroid hormone. From what I understand, this is not a very pleasant experience.
