  1. so you don repeat the mistakes of the past ,and you can build with the things that worked

  2. Many years ago History teachers were almost revered. Not so any more; young people are not too interested in learning about past civilizations and many can't pass a test about American History. They seem to be interested in having a good time and making money.

If we don't learn about the past and what the end results were for different civilizations, how can we hope to avoid their mistakes or build on their good ideas?

On the other hand we are facing things peoples in the far past did not have to deal with and we need think tanks to come up with ideas.

  3. Think about it this way, imagine having no long term memory and just a short term memory that just lasts for ten minutes. Then imagine trying to explain to the angry person in front of you, who you are and why you're standing in the middle of the road naked and holding a rubber chicken?! And you wonder to yourself, why is this person even angry?

Yeah the world becomes even more tough, confusing, and weirder. On the plus side you forget all the bad things that may have happened to you and you're always meeting new people every ten minutes, but on the bad side you also forget about the good things like your first kiss or that really awesome life altering ideal where you finally figure the meaning of life and it was so simple, life is .... ?!

History is like that long term memory, and some folks may even say it makes mankind who we are because of who we were and gives hope to what we can be in the future.

  4. we learn from the mistakes other made in the past to better the future
