  1. it depends really its not how long you have been riding really its how good you are and how much you have learnt, how you handle horses being able to control them if they take off, cantering, jumping it depends, ask your instructor if she thinks your still a begginer or if you are a novice

  2. It really depends on the individual.  Some people are natural horse people and move very quickly from beginner to intermediate to experienced.  Others can ride for years and still be beginners.

When you can handle your horse no matter what he does, and you can handle him appropriately, then I would consider you to be intermediate.  When you can control any horse you ride and handle him effectively no matter what he does, then I would call you experienced.

The more you ride and the greater amount of time you spend in the saddle, the more experience you will get and the more likely you will have gotten into a few "situations" with your horse.  Riding different horses as often as you can, will greatly improve your riding skills and your understand of horses which will also allow you to move up the ladder towards being an experienced rider.

I now this is kind of a vague answer, but it really is difficult to determine a riding level simply based on a time period of one year.

  3. it depends on you. it took me four years of riding, and now I'm a professional trainer. To me an advanced rider or even intermediate should be able to ride a bucking, bellowing horse. Be Abel;e to ride a cutting horse and be able to stay on when stopping. An intermediate rider should be able to handle the common horse problems, you know kicking and sometimes a few crow hops. Just because you are advanced in the ring, doesn't mean you can ride. You know advanced Western pleasure all you do is trot and lope around the ring. Today you see too many riders thinking they are advanced and they cant ride at all. But it really depends on the person.

  4. It depends on what you and your horse can do. you can be a beginner rider on a senior experienced horse or vis versa. can you do flying lead changes, pivots, back through a gate, rollbacks, slid stop? if so your intermediate. if you only know how to walk trot lope and gallop your a beginner.

  5. It completely depends on what you are capable of. There is no time frame attached to it. You can be a beginner for 6 months or 6 years. An intermediate rider can do a decent job of riding a horse, maybe even one that has minimal issues. You are an advanced rider when you can ride pretty much anything and do it well.
