How is it like being an airplane/ helicoptor pilot?

It is much like driving a car, only in midair.  But it is still a lot more complicated doing a helicopter than a plane.  Helicopters are harder because if you go too high, you spin out of control.  Go too low, you crash.  You normally want to stay higher than the trees.  In a plane, it's more operating the switches correctly and knowing where you're going.  I'd say it's more like using your radio in the car when you're driving.  Either way, it's not safe for a pedestrian to just hop in and start flying it.  Because on a jet, you normally have three or four or even five engines that you have to turn on.  Forget to turn one on, you die.  Helicopter, you go too high, or low, or even get a branch stuck in an engine, and you're dead.

I fly helicopters, airplanes and gliders. Once you learn the basics of any aircraft the principals are all the same. People will tell you a helicopter is harder to fly but it's not. Helicopters were the first aircraft I ever flew and I soloed in seven hours. I'll bet you'd find that an airplane takes just about as long to solo although it was my second aircraft so it didn't take much time. And of course gliders are exactly like airplanes with out a throttle. There have been days when I flew a Huey in the morning for the army, gave glider instruction in the afternoon, towed a couple gliders in an L19 and in the evening flew a cessna 402 sight seeing trip for Royal Hawaiian Airlines all in the same day. It's just not the problem people make it out to be.

To be honest they are practically to differnt animals to fly. I can fly several types of planes and have tried the heli and d**n theres not a comparison... Im sure there are pilots that can fly both, but im sure there are men that can drive a pick up truck and drive a steam roller to. I have tried many times and am just not comfortable with them

depends on if you like flying.  if you do then its awesome if you dont then its scary.  to me its awesome
