i currently live in oakland, ca and i want to move to minneapolis. mostly because of the weather. i hear its very cold most of the time there and im a cold weather kinda person. secondly because the cost of living is cheaper than what it is in the bay area. i just wanted to know what the weather is like? is it hard to get around the city if you're driving? will it be hard to start my car in the winter time? does the city have a walmart or target? oh!, and i currently work at the main post office in oakland, so if i transfer to minneapolis' main post office, whats the best place to live so i can be not to far away from it? thank you!!

  1. first, nearly every city in the country is less expensive than the bay area

second, target is based in minneapolis (along with 3M, best buy, northwest airlines and general mills)

    now-

the twin cities are my favorite place on the planet. i went to graduate school there are loved it...it's easy to drive there though the names of highways are a little confusing (35E does not mean east), the city buses are reliable and the winter, yeah it's cold, but if you're cold, you're cold and after a certain temp, it does not make a difference; you'll be fine- the area offers a lot...

    > In Maplewood, a suburb of (north) St. Paul is Lake Phalen- it's my favorite spot in the cities. The smaller Keller Lake is right there also.

    > Fineline (Music Cafe) is a cool space for music.

    > Walk around the University of Minnesota campus

(stop in Coffman Memorial Union & walk the Washington Avenue bridge)

    > Rent bicycles and ride along Hennepin Avenue through downtown (cyclists get the center lane of traffic- sweet) or along East River Road near campus

    > Minneapolis has more theater seats per capita there anywhere outside nyc in the us- check out the Gutherie

    > Walker Art Museum (near Loring Park) - though I went as a fan of expressionist Franz Marc and his painting 'Blue Horses' had been removed from display because of damage

    > Uptown Minneapolis is a good place to eat- lots of restaurants to choose from

  2. It is cold, in the winter and fall.

Not always cold, cause we do have summer and spring as well.

Yes, we have Target and Wal-Mart.

Sometimes in the winter, cars do fail to start if they're too cold, and you dont let them warm up.

The transit system in Minneapolis is pretty nice actually.

We have a lightrail that goes all through downtown and to many places. You'd be able to get around just fine.
