How is it possible for my friend to be in love with her abusive boyfriend?

She is in an abusive relationship, yet refuses to leave him. She says she's in love and the abuse is something she can put up with. How could she be in love with someone who abuses her? Is this possible? I don't understand why she defends him and never reports the stuff he does to her.

Yes it is possible, in fact it's even quite common. Your friend probably only sees the good side of him. She automatically forgives him for the abuse because she is so infatuated with him and thinks that his love will compensate for that. You can only warn her about him as you can't file a report unless she agrees or testifies.
