Don't you guys find it strange that although he had many doctors and such on his side making sure he was in prime physical condition he still managed to have a leg injury like that? Personally I believe he faked the injury because there was just too much pressure on him and he would have been a disgrace if he lost.

Just think about it instead of automatically getting mad. He trained so hard, he had so many doctors and trainers with him to make sure he didn't get injured... and yet somehow, he got injured. In all honesty, do you really think that it's more likely that he actually did injure his leg than him faking it?

It is entirely possible that he did fake the injury, you guys and girls have to admit that. You can't completely rule it out.

Anyways, thanks for your answers, and please, try to keep them mature and clean. I really don't mean to offend anyone, it's just that personally I think he did fake the injury, and I wouldn't call him a coward or anything disrespectful. I completely understand it if he did fake the injury because there was just so much pressure on him!

Again, not trying to disrespect him, just trying to show another side of the story, so please, don't get so mad, or at least try not to.

  1. I don't get all the conspiracies.  How would you think it's not possible for any human not to get injured?  Hoe do athletes like Michael Jordan or Brett Favre get hurt?  Because they are humans and get hurt.  it happens.

  2. Liu Xiang had been injured for quite some time.  No sportsman is immuned to injuries and the list include Tiger Woods, Yao Ming, Ronaldo, or even Ronnie.  Therefore, the best option is to try to recuperate fully.  The achilles tendon injury was known well in advance, and in one of a recent major event, he pulled out from competition.

If we are petty, we always think of petty reasons on why people did what.  If we are magnanimous, we try to be more understanding.

  3. what's your point?

  4. No I say that would be near impossible for him to miss out a chance in winning a medal in his own Country. Even if he doesn't win the Chinese people will still be proud of him for representing them and giving his best for them.

  5. No, he has been injuried for a long time, his coach was about to let him quit the olympic but that when the cuban guy broke his world record, people would thought that he is afraid of the cuban so he insisted to see if he can have a go at the olympic, obviously the injury has taken the better of him, he is only 25 years old and is still on top, no reason for him to be pretending or anything

  6. It's really not possible.  Liu Xiang's coach said that he's had the problem with his calf or hamstring, whichever it is, for 5-6 years now.  It keeps sticking its ugly head back up, and could be a permanent problem.  He had the same injury 2 months ago in Oregon, and it just didn't heal.

Liu Xiang does not seem to be the kind of person to cave under pressure.  His interviews in Athens 2004 after each race were all very light.  An example after his first heat in Athens 2004 (translated):

Interviewer: You kind of relaxed at the end of the run.

Liu Xiang: Yep, it's good to loosen up.

    Interviewer: 13.28 seconds.

Liu Xiang: Yep, don't you think I'm pretty good, running 13.28 seconds while relaxing at the end?

Knowing him better through his interviews, you realize he's not the kind of person to cave under pressure.  He kicked the wall three times before he went out onto the track in Beijing since he knew the injury was bothering him, and his coach had a very emotional interview afterwards, bursting into tears.  I really doubt any faking is going on.

  7. Nerves.

    Simply nerves.

They can cause flaws in the performance of the athletes.
