  1. the universe is mysterious

  2. The passage of time is based on the movement of light.  The theory is that a black hole has a gravity field so strong that light cannot be emitted.  Therefore light stops moving and time, as we know it, stops.

  3. This is an aspect of general relativity which is the most accurate description of the physics we see around us. Asking this question is roughly like asking how is it possible to make an apple fall toward the Earth. Its just fact and how things work.

That being said, time doesn't actually stop in a black hole. I dont want to go into the mechanics behind it, but from an observer's frame of reference, one not in the gravitational field of a black hole, an object approaching a black hole never seems to pass the event horizon. In fact, it never actually does pass the event horizon. In Russia, the word for black hole literally translates as "frozen star". Look into gravitational time dilation for a better understanding of this phenomenon.

  4. Because it's always dark, and there's never light there. We have time here because there's always a switch between night light and dark.

  5. Two things slow down time: travelling at very fast speeds, close to the speed of light, and very strong gravity fields. Since the force of gravity is infinite at the centre of a black hole, time stops completely.

  6. It stops for observer which is positioned out of black hole. For observer in the black hole time flows normally.

How is it possible? Simply because the time depends on gravity, but since it is relative it is not observed in current state.

  7. Time exists only in consciousness, and is not an absolute. It is a measure of perceived duration, not anything real in the way we usually think of it. Of course, some theories (e.g .John Wheeler's work) suggest that consciousness is the unified field that contains everything. Relativity showed that time is relative to the speed at which the observer is traveling. Don't think of it as a rigid, unchangeable scale that external objects can be placed on. The reality is quite counter-intuitive.

Of course, I have to plead ignorance. I just wanted to toss some ideas out there to start a discussion. My training is not in these areas. Maybe one of our more learned friends could correct my view and enlighten both of us.

  8. Einstein's theory of relativity as you know that when an object approaches the speed of light, time slows down.  But not only time slows down, but mass increase as well.  And since the mass of the black hole is enormous and highly concentrated, then there is incredible amounts of time dilation, meaning time slows down.

OR, the gravity of the black hole pulls you so much, that you accelerate towards the black hole at the speed of light, and thus time slows down as you approach the speed of light.

    I think.
