  1. Multi decks is actually what makes counting cards easier.

The goal is to figure out when the shoe is in your favor.  So counting cards properly tells you when the shoe contains player friendly cards versus when the shoe is not so dealer friendly.

If anything single deck blackjack is worse because it tends to have worse odds, and the reshuffle after each hand.  So your count is only based on the cards in play for that one hand.

But honestly, there days it is pointless to try and learn.  The moment any casino figures you are a good card counter you will be asked not to play blackjack any more.  So it's better to spend the same time and effort learning poker.  There's lots of fish and casinos don't care who wins.

  2. Many casinos still have double decks games, which is easy money for the competent card counter. The ability to count is actually pretty easy if you can do quick math in your head, the hard part is putting up an act and working in enough "cover" plays to avoid detection but not kill your profits. It's more difficult than in years past, but  not impossible and I can guarantee you that there are plenty of people still out there making a decent profit.

For the recreational player, there are a few very easy counting methods (easier than hi-lo) that you can learn to do effectively in a couple of weeks or less that will give you a slighter edge than a "professional" level counting method, but still give you a modest advantage. If done correctly, these methods work well and are more or less ignored by casino personnel unless you're totally obvious. EVERY player who goes to casinos more than a few times a year should learn one of these methods unless they are totally lazy or stupid.

  3. Sigh...

There is a variety of reasons why it is VERY hard nowdays...but neither of the reasons you mentioned are why.  Casinos have NEVER dealt all the cards in the deck, and multi-deck counting is not much of an issue.

It's the auto-shufflers and the fact that they are very quick to detect your play tactics that you should worry about.

  4. it can be done, it is just difficult

  5. Use gestures with a friend much easier

  6. It is pretty much impossible if they are using an auto shuffler.

  7. not impossible but very difficult.

Your not dealing with a single deck.

Most casinos use 6 decks in a shoe.
