How is it possible to make a boat out of iron even though the piece of iron sinks in water?

get a less dense (than water) material and put underneath! I had to make a boat out of cement for a project, it was bad :P

Buoyancy and water dispacement.

The key aspect of it, is to construct it in such a way that the boat does not leak.

And make it large enough to displace a suitable amount of water to buoy it up.  Everything that is heavier than water, can be shaped (more or less) to keep it from sinking.
