  1. get a less dense (than water) material and put underneath! I had to make a boat out of cement for a project, it was bad :P


  2. Buoyancy and water dispacement.

  3. The key aspect of it, is to construct it in such a way that the boat does not leak.

    And make it large enough to displace a suitable amount of water to buoy it up.  Everything that is heavier than water, can be shaped (more or less) to keep it from sinking.

  4. Who was the chap who leapt out of the bath naked, shouting 'Eureka'.  Ask him....
