Shes got to be the worlds worst commentator. Going on and on about Africa, as if she didn't know anything. A mega fake question, and then she ends up just answering it anyway. She talks WAY too much. Ugh. Let's fire her.

  1. I kinda agree with you.  I think what irritated me most was when she made the comment during Venus's match that she hoped there would be more "Black" tennis champions to come.

Why is it so important to her that there be more "Black" champions?  What does "race" have to do with champions or even tennis?

Why bring THAT up at all?

I think she said it to PROVE that she (Pam Shriver) is politically correct!  I think that she thinks it makes her a "BETTER" person for stating her support of more African Americans being represented in tennis!

But, on the OTHER hand, I'd bet that if she were asked, "does a player's race matter in tennis?" ... she would be the first to reply..."No, race does NOT matter"!...but then she'd like to see more African Americans playing in top seeds?

    Ironic, huh?

  2. Pam Shriver won 21 singles titles and 112 doubles titles( most of those with Martina Navratilova, including the doubles grand slam in 1984) She is worthy of her position in my book.

  3. She's a former player (ranked as high as #3 in singles), part of the greatest doubles team of all time with Navraltilova, and she knows most of the players from her time on the tour and now as a WTA mentor.  She knows what she's talking about most of the time.  I like her.

  4. Hillarious question my friend ! I might have just been thinking the same thing. Im guessing that this is a rhetorical question and needs not to be answered. She came in runner up to Chris Evert in 1978 at the US but never Won a major. I suppose she just wanted her life to revolve around tennis. Can't blame her for it, I'd love to make bad jokes and act drunk on TV, and get paid for it. I try to drown all the ESPN commentary out of my head when watching. Except for Chris Fowler, the man is a class act and perfect gentleman.

  5. She wasn't a major singles player, but she is one of the greatest doubles players.  When she played with Navratilova, they even won the Grand Slam together.  As for her ability to be a commentator, I agree with you, sadly she's not the best.  She tends to get carried away by the human aspect and forgets to actually concentrate on matches at hand.

But at least she's easy to tune out.  To me McEnroe is the worst one.  I can't stand him talking about how he remembers playing at this tournament 20 years ago and whom he played.  And I have yet to hear him narrate a match without doing that.
