How is it that USPS can have a Flat Rate Box for Domestic that you can fit 40lbs or more for only $12.95?

The most possible answer is that USPS have a designated truck services from area to area that goes out on certain days no matter what the situation are & they're still way below maximum capacity of that truck. A box size to some extend limit the weight as they must have done their homework & calculate the max weight a box can carry.


  2. I love the flat rate boxes, they can really save you money!

  3. Law of averages. For every box that goes with a lot of weight, there are more that go out with less weight that normal. On the whole, it will average out slightly in favor of USPS.

    The Flat Rate Boxes are designed for convenience, not necessarily to give the consumer the best rate. many times it would be less to use a regular box and pay by weight and zone.

    But then you have to consult the zone chart, have an accurate weight, make sure that the measurements are within the rules and then mail.

    With the FRB, you use the specific box, print a label, and off it goes. Simple, easy and convenient, but not necessarily cheaper in all cases.

    BTW, in our Processing Facility, the record is 57 pounds.
