How is it that scientist say that Earth is about 1 million yrs old when they never lived that long?

Scientist have never lived any length of time as such, and no human has ever. So,why do many people believe their nonsense? The Holy Bible has more proof to discredit them. If u study it out, then it reveals that the Earth is not millions of yrs old, but maybe only a couple thousand. Now people might say "why do u believe the Bible it was written by man?" It may have been written by man, and if u wanna look at it from that view, then the Bible has more proof, BECAUSE it was written by man. Those men were physically there and wrote down experiences in there time, which is written record about biblical times. Now scientist only have theories...no written records by man to prove their theology. Now if u are a person who believes only in facts, then which would u rather believe? A scietist w/ no records to back his theories or the Bible which is written record of the biblical times?

I think that scientists say that the earth is abour 4.5 billion years old. anyway, it is much more than a million. Scientists vary in their estimates of the earth's age, but I am quite sure that all or most of them put it at more than a million. I think that the scientists' estimate of the earth's age is more accurate than the age the bible seems to place it at. Carbon dating is one of the ways scientists estimate the age of the world.

Scientists are usually not studying theology. Scientist are studying evidence. The key to understanding the past is studying the present.

By studying the present it is easy to see that

Um just want to tell the person who's skeptical of the ark holding every animal and someone creating the land of Nod and God planting fossils.....ok, the ark was really really really BIG I forget exactly how big, but there was room. The land of Nod-God created the land of Nod, obviously. It didn't say that it was populated! And fossils.....that's harder. So as a Jew, I have learned that Genesis, Berashis in Hebrew begins with the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet, not the first, so there might have been worlds before Adam and Eve that were destroyed, like with Noah and the flood. Another theory is that the six days of creation might have actually not been six of our days, but a longer, different kind of measurement. So a day could have been years. That would account for dinosaurs and fossils. Personally, I like the first one better.

AND Abel(I think you mean Cain) were born AFTER Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden.

The evidence is evident. for living creatures we have the Carbon dating. I can not state the direct evidence of Earth age since I am not geologist.

If you study our God's Holy word with a little more intelligence and common sense I believe you will find that it does not date our planet.

Our planet is about four and a half billion years old and our Bible explains in a very succinct manner the evolution of the universe. You can read it in the first pages of Genesis, it takes about a hundred and eighty words, depending on what version you read but God explains the evolution of His universe and His planet to us very well.

As for the scientists? They aren't gullible dummies! Millions of them are men and women who worship God, and the Lord Jesus, but they use the God given intelligence that God breathed into us when He first breathed the life of a soul into Adam.

Firstly, as many others have mentioned, the earth is approximately 4 billion years old.

As for how scientists know this... there are several methods for determining the age of the planet (and of the universe, which is about 6 billion years old), most of which fall under radiometric dating. Certain elements contain radioactive isotopes (variants) which decay into more stable isotopes at constant rates, called  Carbon-14 dating is the most often cited example of this kind of dating. It can be used anyplace there is organic matter, ie, fossils, even the remnants of fires. It decays fairly quickly, geologically speaking, so for older sites, or sites with no organic matter, other elements can be used. There is a site out there that explains radiometric dating, and other methods of chronology, for those of a Christian bent. I've linked to it in my sources. I don't agree with everything he says about god and all of that, but he does do a good job of explaining the science to those who doubt or may not know much about it.

As several others have indicated, the earth is a lot more than 1 million - more like 4.5 billion, however they have been mistaken in using Radiocarbon dating (C14) as the source for the information.  C14 dating is based on the decay of the C14 isotope of carbon into C12 - the half life is about 5700 years.  Although theoretically the amount of C14 will never reach 0 because of how a half life works, after about 50,000 years it becomse very small, difficult to measure and not really useable.  HOWEVER - there are many other dating techniques that can be used to for older periods.  For example Potassium-Argon dating (K-Ar) works on the same principle, but the half-life use is on the order of millions of years, meaning that it only becomes effective when looking at items 100,000 years older or more - providing a great compliment to C14.  There are many other techniques - Thermoluminesence, Fission Track, etc. that you can find more about by checking out any basic text on archaeology.

As for the Bible - even scholars of the bible are aware that the stories written in the bible were not written by the people actually involved (at least until Pauls letters in the New Testament) - They were all written hundreds to thousands of years after the fact. Therfore your initial assumption that the authors of the bible actually witnessed the events does not stand up.  Even if the firts humans were able to record what they knew directly - how could that acount for the Days of Creation before man came around?

Finally - biblical scholars have tried to date the events in the bible and best estimates suggest that if they were true, Moses, Noah, and other old testament mainstays were living to be hundreds (multiple) of years old.  Do you think this really happened?  Most of the stories are probably just that - compitlations of numerous events and long told oral histories that were eventually written down - and in many cases were modified long before they were put in print.

First, scientists have said the earth is older than 1mil yo, check your facts.  If you believe in the bible then you will believe that god created everything.  If god created everything then he created scientists.  Scientists that god created were given something called knowledge where by the god's grace they were able to figure out dating techniques.  By using the dating  techniques they have been able to figure out how old the earth is, all with the wisdom that god gave them.  You must have been missing the day god was handing out intelligence if you are going to believe in a book that has been mistranslated so many times over the past two millenia.

As for the Bible being proof, it was written hundreds of years ago, so I assume that you weren't there to see that its word is true, just like the scientists making their claims. However, the scientists have good proof, and that proof is the Earth itself.

Well, the contental rift which spans across the globe expands at a steady rate of one inch a year which moves the contentants at a steady rate which HAS been measured in the past fourty years.  If you take that number, and multiply you can tell how much the rift has expanded and pushed the continants apart.  Its like moving a watch backward. you can see how the mechanism works by moving it foward and backward.  Fortunately this " theory" fits both foward AND backward.  Unlike the bible which only fits if you choose to ignore many facts, (like dinosours).

      the bible sais that humans came from ONE man and ONE woman.  if this is true then when Kain killed Able and Able was banashed to the land of Nod for his crime.... Who created the land of Nod?  Adam and Eve couldn't and Able was the first person to leave the guarden.  Speaking of the guarden... where is it?  It seems people would notice a giant flaming sword floating and guarding a giant guarden.

      Also it seems pretty improbable that one man could build a ship large enough to hold EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL on it through a world wide flood.  

       The land bridge theory has been proven.  Fossles don't lie.  and the migration patterns agree with the land bridge theory.  Are you saying God planted all those fossles as some big joke?
