How is it that so few people are seriously injured by baseballs flying into crowds at games?

  1. First, usually they're watching - so that they're not hit while unaware, and can dodge or try to catch it. Second, even if they *are* unaware, most of the people immediately around them will try to catch the ball that might have hit them anyway.

    So the most typical injuries would result from attempting to catch the ball, usually no more than a bruise, sprain or jammed finger; something you're not even likely to admit if you get the ball! If the ball is not actually caught, it's probably slowed enough that it's not much of a threat anymore.

    In my experience, its the guy next to you with a drink or hot dog that you have to be worried about! However, I advise you to bring a baseball glove (or at least a hat that you'd sacrifice for the catch)...
