How is it that some people find it really important to have their prepaid cell phones turned on?

Guessing it's because car insurance costs a lot more than keeping a phone turned on. It's not really a sensible question though as the two are completely unlinked. It's like asking why people find it important to visit their friends, but regularly drop litter.

Agree.  I noticed during Katrina evacuations in New Orlean just about everyone could afford a cell  phone but the couldn't afford a car or bus ticket or cab fare to leave. I think thier priorities are warped.
